Safety First for Northern Long-Eared Bats

The building of a new safety complex in Plaistow, New Hampshire has been delayed by the Army Corps of Engineers because of fears for the safety of Northern Long-Eared bats discovered in trees adjacent to the project. The federally protected species of bat should clear out by the end of August, builders have been assured, which is the natural close of their habitat cycle in the area. By then they will have raised their young and flown for greener pastures. Their federally protected status puts the construction-delaying bats one level below the Endangered category. Read more...
