This isn't something you'll want to blow past you. Wind energy is helping to power around 25 million homes around the country and growing. In fact, in the last 10 years, the US spent $143 billion in wind industry investment. And there are greater that 52,000 operating, utility-scale wind turbines in the US. Now, thanks to the relationship between MidAmerican Energy Company and Mortenson construction, there will be more.
MidAmerican Energy Company will be building its 13th wind farm and Mortenson will construct the 170-MW Beaver Creek wind farm in Iowa. According to reports, this project is considered the largest economic development investment in Iowa state's history.
The Beaver Creek wind farm will consist of 85 turbines, expected to be in-service December 2017. According to Matt Ott, a project developer for MidAmerican, "...over the 40-year life of the project that Greene County can expect property tax benefits of upwards of $21 million."
Mortenson has built 55% of all the wind power in Iowa.
As stated in Mortenson's release, "We are pleased to be part of Iowa's leadership in wind energy. It was in Iowa where we entered the wind energy market in 1995 by erecting our first turbine near Adair," commented Tim Maag, vice president and general manager of Mortenson's Wind Energy Group.
