Manhattan Trench Collapse Case May Signal New Litigation Era

The apparent rise of general safety enforcement on the construction jobsite is increasing both awareness of the safety issue, and the involvement of attorneys in the construction process. The Manhattan trench collapse death of Carlos Mancayo in 2015, and the subsequent charges again the parent company, Harco, have drawn the attention of industry-watchers everywhere. The judge’s decision to charge Harco with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and reckless endangerment has put the construction sector on even high safety alert, and may signal a new era in enforcement on the jobsite.
